Being very very hungry is your body telling you to “eat now”, not to “eat a lot”.

If you eat too much after a long bout of not eating, your blood sugar and insulin both spike really fast, causing headache, nausea, etc. I assume this is the reason why (as others have said) your stomach shrinks a bit.

Your stomach shrinks if you don’t eat. So you might think you’re hungry enough to eat a whole box of cereal. But you’ll actually only be able to eat two bowls

When you haven’t eaten in a while, your stomach contracts, making it feel full more quickly. When you haven’t gone as long without eating, your stomach is already stretched out a bit, and can take more before it feels as full.
