why computers need to be restarted periodically to function correctly

Question

I work at a major tech company and most times I go to IT, they tell us to restart our computer. Why is this a necessary process to maintain a normal operating experience?

Computers can work flawlessly for decades. Windows can’t.

Sometimes software will reach a state where it’s not supposed to be. Then one needs to load a known good state and try again. Sometimes hardware does the same, but that’s less likely.
