Why did so many Nazis choose to escape to Argentina, and how did they manage to escape over the Atlantic undetected?

So it looks like people answered why. As to how, they got a lot of assistance from the Church and the red cross, is my understanding. The red cross shipped a ton of Germans over with fake documents. They weren’t undetected. They just had paperwork saying they were other people.
