>women drink for free nights
Stereotypically (haven’t seen stats or any survey) men visit bars more, and spend more time there than women. That’s ok, but if the bar becomes known as a “men’s only” venue, then it starts losing potential women patrons, couples, and any men looking to socialize with women. The women’s-drink-free is an attempt to attract women and couples, and make the bar a more popular venue overall.
>bars that just wont let men in but will let women in.
Let’s be honest here. Men can be pigs. And safety, let alone equal rights and respect, are neither legally nor culturally guaranteed to women in many places. Depending on where you are, and how chauvinistic, self-entitled, and improper the men there can be, there might be a decent business case for a place for women to drink and socialize in peace.
For the same reasons (making the bar a safe space, and marketing it as a cool place to socialize across gender), lots of bars have a “no stags” rule, at least on some nights. They’ll let ladies or couples or groups with similar numbers of men and women in, but won’t let single / unaccompanied men in. Basically they are enforcing a balanced gender ratio. This is a lot more common than not letting men in at all.
