Why do bloody noses usually only bled from one nostril?

Your nostrils are separated from one another by the nasal septum. This prevents blood from a wound in the forward portion of one nostril from entering the other. This is where the large majority of nosebleeds occur.
A wound further back may actually drain down the throat rather than out of the nostrils, but it can potentially drain out of both nostrils.
Also you never truly use both nostrils at once that’s why it can feel like a stuffy nose switches sides. your body constricts blood flow on one side allowing for repair and so your nose doesnt dry out. It switches about every 6 ish hours
When your nose is bleeding, you’re normally bleeding from a specific place on the inside of your nose (like if you make it bleed by picking it). The blood will come out of whichever nostral that place is in. When you bleed from both, it’s probably because the whole inside of your nose is dry to the point where bleeding happens in both nostrals.
