Why do brain cells die so quickly without the supply of oxygen? compared to other cell types in the body?

In: Biology

Brain cells have an high demand in terms of energy… IE sugar, oxygen and many other metabolytes.

The higher the demand, the quickest is the death when starving

High metabolic rate, many mitochondria requiring energy to change electrolyte levels to send neuronal signals. Complex protective measures and structures needing many proteins. Mitochondria need lots of O2 to make this energy so it dies quickly.
