Why do cameras seem to ‘see’ through mist, fog or heavy rain better than the human eye?

Do they? I have multiple outdoor 4k cameras that stream continuously and when it’s foggy I can’t see anything, certainly not better than with my eye.
Because while you might personally experience heavy mist/fog/rain, nobody shares camera footage of heavy mist/fog/rain where you can’t see anything in the footage.
