Why do certain smells stay in a room or location a lot longer than others?

I’ve searched this sub for the answer but I only got answers that were close to this question (like exact smells) and not the actual way things are in general.

Your nose is better at detecting some smells compared to others. This is usually tied to smells that indicate something is rotten or poisonous, since it would have been very important for our ancestors to notice that.
