The colors of clouds are affected by the amount of sunlight that hits them. During the day, clouds are mostly made up of water droplets and they scatter sunlight in all directions. This is why clouds during the day appear white and light in color. At night, when the sun has gone down, less sunlight is able to reach the clouds and they appear more muted in color because they are made up of smaller droplets.
