Why do colors like yellow, pink & green make much better text highlight colors than red or blue?

I use a pink yellow and orange high lighters at work and bright colours like that work better as contrasts to black ink, without making it harder to read. Blues and reds used are usually darker shades that don’t contrast black ink as legibly. Bright light blue pastel does highlight well though.

Think of a red light in a pitch black room versus a yellow or orange light; you will see much clearer in the latter two rooms due to the better contrast.
