why do different downloaders exist for different sites?

So there are unassociated downloaders that only claim to be for a specific site like this one is only for [youtube](https://ssyoutube.com/en28/youtube-video-downloader) and this one for [Instagram](https://igram.io/). I haven’t found anything explaining why there can’t just be one site that downloads whatever link you throw at it instead of all these different ones. My best guess is because of compatibility or API issues but I’m not too sure

Youtube and Instagram are examples of sites that do not what people to download their data from them. If the what you to do that there would be a built-in save button on the sites but there is none.

There is no API or simple way to do that, the website is actively trying to stop that. You need to interpret the HTML code and get what is the URL to and how you for example download streaming video data to a file.

I would use the desktop app Jdownlader 2 for Youtube It works fine for me whenever I have used it. It supports lots of other sites it looks like that include Instagram, I have never tried to download from Instagram with it.
