Depends on how much humidity is in the air. All those microscopic water droplets create a haze, and our brains have learned that “haze means far away”. The Apollo astronauts would head off towards a promising crater or boulder, and 20 minutes later would realize they’d hardly made any progress – essentially no atmosphere on the moon, so no haze, and it totally effed up their sense of distance.
