Why do doors close easier when a window is open?

If you close your bedroom door and then close it again with the windows in the room open you may notice a big difference on how easily it swings shut

In order for the door to close, it has to shove air out of the way.

If there’s an open window, it’s really easy for air to get shoved out of the room, so the door closes easily.

If the windows are all closed, the air “squishes” a little bit more as it’s being shoved, and you can feel that resistance.
