Acute alcohol intoxication can interfere with your brains ability to convert short term memory into long term memory. All your memories from before your BAC reached that level are intact, but any new memories you try to make while you are blacked out won’t stick, so you end up not remembering the story you just told or the bouncer throwing you out for puking on the bar. You’ll wake up the next day with either no memory, or spotty , vague memories of the night’s events. Once your BAC is low enough your brain can start saving memories properly.

Related fact: it has been shown recently that these levels of intoxication directly affect our abilities to distinguish between right and wrong, meaning drunk words are not necessarily sober thoughts. I’m sure we’ve all done some dumb shit at some point when drunk enough that we know we wouldn’t do or even want to do while sober (e.g ugly hookups)
