Why do farmers destroy their crops when weather conditions are bad? Why bother going through the trouble? Why not just let them grow and get at least some harvest?

Some crop insurance also requires that the farmers can’t sell any of the crop if they make a claim. Or whatever they make from selling is deducted from their settlement.

Why deplete the soil and risk disease or your equipment breaking if you won’t make any more money.

I think this is becoming less common but it can still be a factor.
