There’s 2 main reasons.

*1)* Their manes – They are actually really good defence, that protects their neck and head in fights with other male lions, but they are terrible when it comes to camouflage, so on a normal hunt, they stand out like sore thumb!

*2)* They have a job, they protect the pride! They often aren’t even with the pride. They will walk around the area of their land, and defend it from other lions, whilst the female lions hunt the land! Female lions are strong enough, especially in a group to take down most animals. The only thing that poses a threat to lions, is other lions, so you have your biggest strongest lion defend the pride.

*Side note)* They do hunt sometimes when the prey they are hunting is very large and they are needed, but the hunting style is a little different, and is more of a head on charge over and over until they catch one out!
