They are cleaning themselves.

Flies smell and taste through their feet and every time they land (technically, that’s what they do half of the time) they get their feet dirty. The rubbing is their way of blowing their nose and brushing their teeth so they can smell/taste whatever it is they are standing upon.

Satisfaction. They’re congratulating themselves on the successful landing. JK aside, flies clean themselves from all the debris they accumulate from landing on various surfaces, some of which might be harboring bacteria or fungi that could harm them.

People say every time a fly lands on food it lays an egg. And while I don’t know if this is true, it just makes me think that it’s an evil laugh kind of hand rubbing. 😂

I know they’re cleaning themselves, but was anybody else told that every time they rub their hands together they’re regurgitating on you? Or was that just me?
