Why do gasoline driven cars have catalityc converters that run hotter than the ones on diesel driven cars?

I don’t understand it because diesel engines usually run hotter, so what’s happening between the engine and the exhaust here?

You have a basic misunderstanding at the focus of your question. Diesel engines run cooler than gas engines. Now that that is established you can understand that catalytic converters in cars are hotter than those in diesel engines. Diesel catalytic converters are also somewhat different from gas engines to compensate for the cooler temperatures.
