Why do germs spread if you wash raw chicken but not if you wash your hands?

Does it have something with soap that makes it safer? Or maybe its different germs. Although our hands touch a lot of surfaces throughout the day so they must pick up a lot of germs. And you do have to wash your hands after handing the raw chicken, so wont you risk spreading the salmonella then as well?

Germs can spread if you wash raw chicken because there is a likelihood of splashes of water contaminated by the germs hitting the surrounding area and spreading the germs. You also now have wet chicken which is likely to drip germy water over everything when you move it from the sink to wherever you are putting it.

If you cook chicken properly then there is no risk from any germs it may have when you bought it and there is no need to even consider washing it.
