why do glasses frames cost so much?

1.28K views

I kinda get why the actual glass part costs a lot, but why are the frames that are basically plastic going for between $100-$500? Big brands it makes a bit more sense for, but sometimes almost completely unknown brands charge similarly high prices. Is it literally still just name recognition?

In the UK you can get glasses (frames and basic lenses) for £25 from Specsavers on the high street and places like [Glasses Direct](https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/) online. Designer frames can still be expensive obviously, but there are still plenty of cheap options
