Some background : I was in the hospital recently for a couple of days and was able to talk and walk.. however, the doctors prescribed injections and IV canulisation over asking me to pop antibiotics and anti gastric medication. Is there a specific reason for hospitals to prefer it or is it just a matter of convenience?

Most medicine needs to get into the blood before it can actually help you.
Taking medicine orally isn’t very efficient, because it has to get into the blood through digestive processes, which takes awhile and “wastes” some of the medicine. But it’s very convenient since you can just swallow a pill any time, any where. The reason you take most medicine orally isn’t because it is “better”, just because it is way more convenient.
An IV is way more effective because it just pits the medicine directly into your blood. You don’t need to wait , and it doesn’t waste any. But it’s normally inconvenient because you *must* have a medical professional administer an IV in order for it to be safe.
When you’re in a hospital already, the medical professionals are already there, so there’s no reason for them not to do it the “better” way.
