I’m Irish, and have never seen this happen in any other country and have no clue what it is

I’m in the US. I’ve never seen a house fumigated and don’t know anyone that knows anyone that has done it. However, I live in a pretty big free area with a solid bug killing winter. I have not heard of anyone in the area with termites either. We have some house spiders but a sticky trap will catch them.
I have lived in another tropical country with cockroaches everywhere and extermination was very common.
