Why do human vision deteriorate?

We actually change how far away we are looking/focusing by relaxing and tightening the lenses of our eyes to make them more or less curved for different focus power. There are various medical conditions that can affect our vision, but in the absence of other issues, the general reason it gets harder to see close-up with age is because the lens hardens over time and can’t bend to change focus as well.
