Most of the answers apply to laughing at a joke. That’s pretty simple, based on anticipation and irony, either surprise or meeting the expectation of the unexpected. But it’s even more complex to observe how a funny person sees truly comical situations that push the edge of acceptability, their moral flexibility, their dark perspective, the fine line between comedy and tragedy. This is where the brain has to do some real back and forth, twisting and bending, creating its own stress and then relieving it. That’s fucking funny.
