– Why do humans not have whiskers while almost all other mammals do?

What would happen for us to lose that, but allow monkeys to still have them?

Humans do have whiskers though. We have beards, just like tamarin monkeys.

We don’t have anything like the whiskers on cats and dogs, but they are part of a separate order of mammals (carnivora). So we didn’t “lose” those, we never had them.

Whiskers on a cat are wider than their heads, so if the whiskers can fit through a space, the cat can fit through a space.

But humans have shoulders. So humans would need whiskers wider than their shoulders to be effetive.

Additionally, cats talk with the heads first and their mouth at the very front. So their whiskers are in front.

Humans walk with their faces in line with their bodies. So our whiskers would hit an obstacle just about the same time our shoulders did.
