I am watching a women’s lacrosse game and I notice the scorers drop their stick after every score. Is this mandatory or is it done because it’s just easier to high five your teammates and whatnot?

In women’s lacrosse the referees have to check the sticks after every goal to make sure the stick is legal.
Women’s lacrosse is more strict with like how deep the pockets (the mesh) of the sticks can be than men’s lacrosse because there’s less hitting.
