Men produce testosterone, which is converted to DHT. DHT can bind to your hair follicles, causing them to shrink.

In women, testosterone is converted to estrogen. Less testosterone means that levels of DHT are significantly lower. Baldness in women tends to start after menopause, when estrogen production begins to decline.
