Why do men lose interest in sex/sexual arousal immediately after orgasm?

Why do men lose interest in the sexual activities or anything arousal in general extremely quickly after having an orgasm? How does function of being horny work? How are genitals connected to our decision making capabilities? Why sexual release can change things this fast and this drastically?

It would be funny if I find out I am the only one,
but I assume I am not since all the gags and posts about “post nut clarity” or finding the “content” you are watching becoming unbearable right after you come.

I’m not sure it’s entirely exclusive to men, but anybody who ever spent way too much time or effort to achieve an orgasm (like surfing internet porn until 3 am the morning before a test, or engaging in some sort of lunchtime sexual behavior that bled into 5th period) understands that this is a universal “WTF did I just do” feeling. And it is accompanied by an assortment of physical and emotional responses.

Sadly, poor understanding of this phenomenon can lead to relationship issues (especially if you really are an SOB after you get yours).

From an evolutionary standpoint, I’m always reminded of “Quest for Fire.” One successful minute behind a female by the riverside might propagate your genes. Two unsuccessful minutes might end your specific genetic line forever.

I’m pretty sure it took a variety of cultural and biological evolutionary behaviors to overcome the desire to run before the next guy arrives.
