Why do most contacts require you to throw them out after 30 days?

Do they degrade after so much use? Is there some sort of build up that accumulates?

Yes and yes.

They begin to deteriorate and they also accumulate tiny particles of dust and other things that start causing damage to the contacts and eventually to your eyes.

Keep the plastic lens in your eyeball for over 30 days and see what happens. Like what do you think could go wrong with that?
