Which ones? At least the ones I have (canon’s 70-200/4 L and 600 L) , its aluminium, not plastic…and I dont know if any high-end stuff has a plastic body.
Color is there for looks of “im running high-end stuff”, tho for cannon its more of the red ring, some L lenses are black, like the 17-40/4 L.
