Why do most smart scales have the exclusion saying not suitable for people with edema or on dialysis?

Those kinds with electrodes that send tiny electric current up your feet and calculate body mass/fat/muscle/fluid/bone density/whatnot. I can sort of understand they have the disclaimer on pregnancy and pacemaker. But edema too? And dialysis if out of the same reason of body fluid imbalance? Is it just the reading is not as accurate? I think I’d like to be assured at least they won’t make the symptoms worse. And if we don’t make use of the “smart” part of the functions (by wearing socks for example) measuring weight would still work (instead of erroring out)

TIA

Yea, it can still work as a simple scale with those conditions, just measuring someone’s weight.

Those conditions can just mess up the scales readings for the smart features, like edema causes swelling, which could interfere with how it tries to measure fats and fluids.
