The mouth is a very disgusting place with germs in it constantly with that being said canker sores and ulcers have to deal with constant bombardment from foreign bodies and bacteria attacking it. On top of that it depends where you get the sores too. If it’s located right where your teeth would be touching your lower lip the irritation would cause the sore to last longer. It’s also a moist environment and wounds do not heal very well/fast because of that. With cuts outside of the mouth it has very little to bother it and so it heals faster.
If you’re currently dealing with a canker sore, my remedy is to place a large pinch (day, half a US teaspoon) of powdered alum on the sore. It will burn/sting briefly. Let it sit there (tilt your head so it doesn’t get wet too quickly from your saliva) until the burning subsides, occasionally multiple treatments are necessary. A buddy of mine swears by rinsing with hydrogen peroxide as a method to quickly clear up canker sores. Anyway, been bothered by them all my life, wanted to pass on that suggestion, in case it helps.
