Why do mouth ulcers/canker sores take so long to heal compared to other small cuts on the body?

The mouth is a very disgusting place with germs in it constantly with that being said canker sores and ulcers have to deal with constant bombardment from foreign bodies and bacteria attacking it. On top of that it depends where you get the sores too. If it’s located right where your teeth would be touching your lower lip the irritation would cause the sore to last longer. It’s also a moist environment and wounds do not heal very well/fast because of that. With cuts outside of the mouth it has very little to bother it and so it heals faster.
