Why do objects, whose line-of-sight from a mirror is blocked, still get reflected in that mirror at an angel?

For example: if I hold a piece of paper up against a mirror, with an object on the other side of the paper, the object will be blocked in the reflection head on. But if I alter my angle to view from the left or right, the object will be reflected on the other side of the paper, despite the paper blocking it from the mirror. Why is this?

*Angle, dammit lol

The object has a line of sight to the part of the mirror that you see its reflection in. If you move your head, you will see its reflection in a different place on the mirror, and if this place no longer has line of sight then you will no longer see the reflection.
