For example: if I hold a piece of paper up against a mirror, with an object on the other side of the paper, the object will be blocked in the reflection head on. But if I alter my angle to view from the left or right, the object will be reflected on the other side of the paper, despite the paper blocking it from the mirror. Why is this?
*Angle, dammit lol

This is due to a property called refraction. When you face a mirror head on, it is bouncing light back at you from right in front of you. That involved everything directly behind. But when you’re at an angle, instead it is reflecting light from a different range, like 90 degrees.
The object is in the line of sight of the mirror. It’s just not right in front. The light is bouncing off the mirror from an angle so you can’t see it from the front.
