Champions get a larger share of new fans, because any new fans to the sport/league will gravitate towards the bigger names – like last year’s champions. New fans keep the wheel turning for decades to come

what championship are you referring to? In almost every sport, here in America, there are huge bonuses in player’s contracts as well as for the organization if they win the championship. As well as special player bonuses for performances in those games.

Sponsors are more interested (higher prestige generally means more sales and having your logo in the final of a major championship is bigger than having it in a generic league) which means doing well in those events will make you more sponsor competitive.

There can be a number of monetary benefits that are not direct prize money.

Champions might receive a larger share of the TV revenue split between the teams.

If the championship has a knock out stage, there will be extra income from the extra games, and that might be even larger if for example the final is played at a much larger venue.
