Surgery carries risk, most people are not
1. Likely to have an issue with their appendix
2. Likely to ignore early symptoms of an inflamed appendix
3. Are located far enough from medical services to be problematic
4. [Doctors going to Antarctica however…](https://www.antarctica.gov.au/about-antarctica/people-in-antarctica/health/)
Other organs that we could proactively remove because they can cause problems but don’t because they are useful and surgery is dangerous are tonsils, gallbladder, spleen, thyroid, colon.
>Why do people wait to remove their appendix instead of when they’re younger?
1. Your appendix serves biological functions. You’re worse off without it.
2. An intrusive medical procedure always carries certain dangers with it. There is no reason to engage in these certain dangers to avoid the uncertain danger of ever encountering problems with that part of your body.
