The lens gets harder as a person ages. The muscles which pull on the lens to focus it have to work harder, so the vision is still focussed but the person’s eyes start to ache at the end of the day.
Then the lens gets even harder, and now the muscles can’t get the lens to focus.
So basically, a lot of people are either short-sighted or long-sighted without realising it until they age.
There are a lot of different factors that can effect eyesight. For example, as someone has already said, the lens in the eye can loose its flexibility.
Another way people may need glasses at a younger age, around 6-13ish is shortsightedness. This is caused by your eyes growing to be slightly too long which can happen because of low levels of sunshine, not enough time looking at things far away, or puberty
