Why do physical scars received from childhood don’t disappear even when reaching adulthood?

I received a scar on my left cheek after getting hit by a toy-launched frisbee when I was 9. I’m now 23 and the scar is still there while some of my recent cuts are completely gone. What’s the reasoning behind this?

When a wound is deep enough, the body heals it by creating scar tissue. Which is essentially excess colagen. Once this scar tissue is formed the body no longer sees it as something it needs to fix and the scar remains practically indefinitely. Some scars do fade over time but don’t ever go back to unblemished skin.
