Why do pics and videos posted online often show up in reverse, like a mirror image? Is there something in the upload process?

Most likely answer is that someone is trying to avoid automatic copyright flags by reversing the video to make it “different”. Same reason why they’ll be cropped in/have weird filters in them.
It’s done intentionally by people to avoid copyright claims. Sites like YouTube employ algorithms to automatically scan uploads for copyrighted materials. Mirroring the image hinders that process.
