Why do places like Death Valley get so hot but places on the same longitude don’t get as hot?

Death Valley is a big bowl. It’s surrounded by tall mountains. There are mountains further to the west as well. Rain falls to the west because the air gets pushed up. The air cools, and can’t hold the moisture anymore. With no rain, and not much wind to push heat out of Death Valley, all of that warmth just sits there. There’s nowhere for it to go, so it just builds up.
