Why do public busses have no seat belts?

I actually asked a bus driver this, and he told me that the law states you only need to wear a seatbelt if you’re travelling more than (I can’t remember what measurement he said, but something like:) 0.5km at a time, and the bus stops and bus stops within that distance. How true this is I don’t know but that’s what he told me.

If they had seatbelts, then legally they would have to enforce wearing seatbelts, and that is something that is obviously impossible for the driver to monitor. This isn’t Germany where the average person follows the rules because that’s what civilized people do.

Bus vs Car, bus will almost always win. One time I was sitting facing into the bus and we stopped really suddenly. I was confused why we stopped, turned around to look out and there was a car right under my window. The bus got T boned WHERE I WAS SITTING and I never even felt a thing.

They don’t have seal belts because bus manufacturers have successfully lobbied against the added cost for decades. School buses same thing

Once, while driving my VW Golf, my attention was diverted in order to glance at my map, so I failed to notice the (empty) school bus that had stopped in front of me, because railroad crossing. A collision then happened, as my front end scraped under its rear bumper. My Golf decelerated rapidly, from about 9 mph, while the school bus barely budged.

My hood was buckled up to the windshield, and the bus bumper was slightly scratched. My insurance company later notified me that the bus driver was suing us for her back injuries. My insurance company required a report from her doctor, prior to paying her. Her claim was then abandoned.

In pursuit of a payday, this shit goes on. Every damned day.

If youre a human running into another human, you’ll cause damage to both parties. If you’re a human running into a cow, you’ll take the damage while the cow is fine. The human is a car, the bus is a cow.

My son rides public transportation to school every day. Just this morning, he texted me this:

“I just got on a bus with a completely new design!
All the seats have Seat belts and there is a lowered area for handicapped people”

With the local buses in my city, just normal braking and cornering (we have a lot of twisty and hilly roads) is enough to almost throw you out of your seat if the driver is bad enough. Most drivers are fine and drive smoothly, but a few seem to have no idea how much they are tossing their passengers around. Not a fun experience!

What happens when a bus hits another bus or similarly weighted vehicle?

They do where I live. Maybe 3% uses them. Im one of those, Ive seen videos of people turning rocketeer through the whole bus (with all those railings) when the bus stops
