Why do reverse kinks happen at random points when a coiled cord is pulled straight, and is there an easy way to undo them?

I’m talking about phone cords like [this](https://external-preview.redd.it/l6EY6iy7qewdf0NOJawX88AL4YR09LfbGcnu4iam73I.png?auto=webp&s=b43efa75d421ba5cb68b9c48e7bd7309fe2d458f) but I have a current issue with a hose made the same way. I tried [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeSycf6A7pI) that keeps coming up and it doesn’t work, so I would like to see if anyone has an explanation so I can know what’s causing it in the first place to maybe help me understand how to undo it.

I haven’t done this in years, and I don’t have a way to test this right now, but …

If the kink is not too far from the end of the cord, I would unhook that end of the cord, shove the tip through the coils until it reached the kink, and then just pull.

I’m pretty sure this worked for me.
