Why do semi trucks have spikes?

Is it to be scary? I heard somewhere it’s to prevent rainwater from sticking to the bolts which sounds like BS.

It’s so you can easily see if a wheel nut has moved and needs to be tightened up. The spike is just a visual indicator of the nut position.
