Why do semi trucks have spikes?

Is it to be scary? I heard somewhere it’s to prevent rainwater from sticking to the bolts which sounds like BS.

They’re completely decorative. They’re just aluminized plastic; they’re friction-fit over the lug nuts. (They won’t gouge up your car if you get sideswiped; the catastrophic damage your car receives in that case will come from other causes.)
