Why do so many sites request my real name when making an account?

I understand the need for real names and accountability on social media sites for example, but there are so many random websites that should only require an email and nothing more that also require this information.

Mostly, so they can personalize. As in, when you receive emails or messages from these websites, they’ll be addressed “Hey ____________, how are you liking (x) service?” They can pretend to know you and care when really if you want, you can put Poopy Fart Butt.
“Hey Poopy Fart Butt, we’re sad to see you go, please consider using this discount to stay subscribed to Hoes With Big Toes!”
