why do some devices have a limit to the size of SD card they can utilise

I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 and it only takes 256gb max. Why is this when a 512gb card is the same size?

These limits are how much the parts in the device can functionally work with. Bigger storage sizes aren’t supported by the software/hardware either due to the nature of the hardware or the age of it. Usually this is due to the format of the data storage.
