why do some devices have a limit to the size of SD card they can utilise

I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 and it only takes 256gb max. Why is this when a 512gb card is the same size?

Generally speaking, there shouldn’t be hard technical limit between 256GB and 512GB, as they both fall under the same storage format (SDXC), that has support for anything between 64GB up to 2TB.

If the device actually doesn’t support anything over 256GB, it’s likely an artificial limit imposed by the device firmware put in place by the manufacturer. As for why the limit is in place, it can be something as simple as some issues like bugs or poor performance with larger storage sizes and DJI is just covering their arses.
