why do some devices have a limit to the size of SD card they can utilise

I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 and it only takes 256gb max. Why is this when a 512gb card is the same size?

Could just be the manufacturer listed what was the maximum commercially available size at the time they wrote the description, or sometimes just a software limitation.
