Why do some men go bald from the hairline and others go bald from the crown?

Is there a biological reason that some men go bald from their hairline and some men go bald from their crown?

I’ve seen some men that look fine from the front and then they’ll have a bald patch on the back.

Or, like me, my hairline is going back but my crown is still full and thick.

Some follicles are susceptible to shrinkage in the presence of DHT and some are not. This is why the back and sides don’t go bald for nearly everyone with pattern baldness. The reason why is due to the genetics of the follicle.

The distribution of follicles that are susceptible is also a matter of genetics, so that is why people have different patterns of baldness.
